America's child maltreatment death rate is triple Canada's and 11 times that of Italy. Over the past decade, more than 20,000 American children have been killed by their own family members -- that is nearly four times the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Five children are murdered a day by a family member, that is the equivalent of 70 classrooms of children a year.

Together we can make Michigan become known as the safest place in the country to raise our children.

I am enthusiastic about introducing further legislation and am hopeful that I will soon have proposed legislation that deals with the following important topic:

Revising the Child Custody Act of 1970 to help fight against child abuse and neglest in Michigan.
